The Art-Gallery
The art gallery, established in 2001, celebrates Kerala’s rich tradition of diverse art forms, many of which are deeply intertwined with religion, worship, and rituals. The gallery exhibits effigies of various characters from Kathakali and other performing arts in full costume. It features beautifully crafted sculptures made of fiber, representing Kathakali, Kutiyattam, Mohiniyattam, and Thullal, which greet visitors upon entry. While it is not possible to showcase all forms of Kathakali and Kutiyattam in the gallery, there are miniature facial paintings on display. These mannequins were sculpted by Kerala’s renowned artist Namboothiri, who has given shape and expression, as well as detailed hand gestures, to the fiber sculptures. For a novice, a visit to the gallery is both educational and inspiring, offering a captivating introduction to Kerala’s traditional performing arts.
